About Us – ULTIMATE-GEMS, Diamonds Since 2012

Good day to you all. My name is Michal Auředník and I should like to share with you the story of my company, ULTIMATE-GEMS s. r. o., which dates back to 2012. There is plenty to tell – judge for yourselves.

Early days with Charles&Colvard moissanite

From the very founding of the company I have focused on offering alternative gemstones to natural diamonds, and that remains the case to this day. At that time Charles&Colvard was the world’s sole producer of moissanite gemstones, but their quality was not such as to capture the market’s interest (J-K colour / VS clarity). The Forever and Forever One lines followed, but by then the manufacturer’s patent had expired and an entirely new chapter of the story began.

The Amora Gem | Beyond the diamond

Once the C&C patent had expired, a number of firms went into production, and standing out above them all was Amora, which became my passion for many years. Amora was made by an American manufacturer, and my company was one of only 7 distributors worldwide and the only one in the whole of Europe, which I regard as a great achievement. In 2014 I staged the European première of Amora at the Jubinale trade fair in Kraków (Poland).

Amora became highly successful around the world, chiefly thanks to its Super Ideal Hearts & Arrows cut (attained by fewer than 2% of all diamonds), and at the time it was the most popular alternative to the natural diamond. Sadly, the company ceased production, which I greatly regret, since to this day I receive enquiries from all over the world asking whether it will become available again.

Many customers (USA, Canada, Asia, EU, Australia) ordered a piece of jewellery from our unique collection to go with their gemstone, or we frequently made bespoke jewellery to the customer’s wishes. Very often Amora was the centre stone, complemented by natural diamonds.

Sirius | Our own gemstone and jewellery brand

After Amora production ended, I approached several other moissanite manufacturers, but the quality – and above all the support from the manufacturers – was really poor. I decided to take a bold step and build my own moissanite brand, Sirius (the brightest star in the sky).

Sirius is a very affordable synthetic gemstone with great potential to replace cubic zirconia. It has a hardness of 9.25 and greater fire and brilliance than a diamond, making it an absolutely ideal gemstone for everyday wear.

It was a fairly lengthy process, which involved building the entire brand, finding a supplier of the highest-quality material on the market (SiC – silicon carbide) and securing excellent cutting of the gemstones to guarantee consistent cut quality. Time for lab-grown diamonds

I have followed lab-grown diamonds from the very beginning, and their story is similar to that of moissanite. At the outset only a handful of companies took up the production of lab-grown diamonds, but the quality was very poor (J-K colour), the price astronomical, and sizes under 2ct were hardly available at all. A lab-grown diamond is a product like any other, so it was only a matter of time before more firms turned their attention to this lucrative segment, which resulted in lower prices and, above all, substantially better results across the ‘4Cs’ (colour, clarity, cut, carat weight). Only a few years ago a beautiful 1ct lab-grown diamond cost around CZK 60,000–70,000, whereas today we offer a 1.21ct D-VVS1 for just under CZK 19,000!!

Thanks to its specialisation, ULTIMATE-GEMS s. r. o. is the largest seller of lab-grown diamonds in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and I venture to say with a clear conscience that our prices are SIGNIFICANTLY better than our competitors’ (by as much as 80%).

The whole story would probably fill a book; it has been marked by successes and setbacks, by prosperity and by starting again from scratch, but my passion for beautiful things – sparkling ones above all – will remain eternal.
