Lab-grown diamonds, just like natural ones, undergo certification that determines their properties and results in a certificate. This certificate has its own unique number, which matches the number engraved on every lab-grown diamond’s girdle. This is the only way to tell a lab-grown diamond apart from a natural one without the help of very expensive equipment. 

The certificates are identical to those issued for natural diamonds. They clearly state that the stone is a lab-grown diamond, to avoid any doubt or confusion with a natural diamond. 

The most common laboratories certifying diamonds include IGI, GIA, GCAL and others, where customers can verify whether the lab-grown & natural diamond they purchased is on record with that laboratory.
